A man was killed this afternoon (22 March) when his motorcycle collided with a tourist jeep in Teknaf upazila of Cox’s Bazar.
Confirming the incident to The Business Standard, Teknaf Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Saiful Islam said the deceased, Anisur Rahman, 30, was recovered from the scene and taken to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital for autopsy.
He added that efforts are underway to identify the jeep involved in the accident.
Witnesses said the motorcycle lost control on a slippery road, caused by saline water, before colliding with the tourist jeep.
Locals also alleged that the road has become increasingly hazardous due to water mixed with salt and mud falling from trucks transporting salt from Shah Porir Dwip.
Many of these trucks, they said, fail to follow safety rules such as using geotextile coverings, creating slippery conditions and putting road users at risk.
