The Election Commission (EC) this morning (10 January) began hearing appeals filed against decisions of returning officers over the acceptance and rejection of nomination papers for the upcoming general election, scheduled for 12 February.
The hearings started at 10am in the auditorium of the Election Commission building in Agargaon.
The deadline for filing appeals with the EC ended yesterday, following the scrutiny of nomination papers by returning officers.
During the five-day appeal period, a total of 645 appeals were filed with the commission.
The EC will continue these appeal hearings until 18 January.
On the first day, hearings of at least 70 appeal applications are scheduled.
Chief Election Commissioner AMM Nasir Uddin and the four other election commissioners are present at the hearings.
The commission will dispose of the appeals after reviewing the applications and hearing arguments from the appellants.
