Police have rescued a teenager allegedly held hostage for nearly two months for ransom and arrested four suspects in Teknaf of Cox’s Bazar.
The operation took place last night (13 February) in the Dargahchhara area of Teknaf Sadar union, said Alok Biswas, district police spokesperson and additional superintendent of police.
The arrestees are Hamid Ullah, 19, of Balukhali Rohingya Camp-10; Nurul Islam, 50; Mohammad Abdullah, 25; and Siddiq Ahmad, 54, all residents of Dargahchhara.
The rescued teenager, Mohammad Zubayer, 17, is from Jhimonkhali in the Whykong union of the upazila.
Alok said a gang, active along Teknaf’s coast, traffics people by sea to Malaysia. They had allegedly been abducting individuals from Cox’s Bazar and other districts, holding them for ransom before sending them abroad.
A case has been filed against the suspects under relevant laws, he added.
