If anyone tries to change their colours using BNP’s name, the party will show no leniency, Abbas says.

BNP Standing Committee member Mirza Abbas today (31 October) warned that anyone who joins hands with the Awami League to create disorder in the country will have no place in the party, and that BNP members who shelter or support them will face strict organisational action.
He made the remarks at a views-exchange meeting at Shahjahanpur in the capital, organised by BNP and its affiliated bodies from Shahjahanpur, Motijheel, Paltan, Shahbagh and Ramna police station areas under the Dhaka-8 parliamentary constituency.
Mirza Abbas, also a member of parliament (MP), alleged that a section of people, having failed to build their own political strength, were trying to hold rallies and processions with the Awami League and spread chaos.
“There is no obstacle to democratic movements and struggles. Do your politics. But if anyone engages in misdeeds, BNP leaders and activists will not sit idle. They will resist with a firm hand,” he said.
Urging party leaders and activists to remain vigilant, he said BNP had not yet taken to the streets. “Judging by the overwhelming response and enthusiasm at this small meeting, held in the rain, you can understand what will happen in Dhaka if BNP takes to the streets,” he said.
Referring to rumours that some Awami League leaders based in India were returning, Abbas said: “We are hearing that some Awami League leaders are coming from India and trying to take positions in different areas. Some greedy people within our own party are sheltering them for money. To be clear, whoever is BNP’s enemy is my enemy. If anyone inside the party helps them, inform us and action will be taken immediately.”
He added that allies of the enemy could never be friends of the party. “We must work very carefully.
“If anyone tries to change their colours using BNP’s name, the party will show no leniency,” Abbas also said.
Dhaka South City Corporation Administrator Abdus Salam, Jatiyatabadi Mahila Dal President Afroza Abbas and Dhaka Metropolitan South BNP Member Secretary Tanvir Ahmed Robin spoke as special guests.
Dhaka South Jubo Dal convener Khondaker Enamul Haq Enam, Swechchhasebak Dal Member Secretary Sad Morshed Pappa Sikder, Dhaka Metropolitan East Chhatra Dal’s Sohag Bhuiyan and leaders of BNP and its affiliated organisations at various levels were also present.
