A rickshaw puller was seriously injured after a car belonging to former Criminal Investigation Department (CID) chief and retired additional inspector general of police Sibgat Ullah hit his rickshaw in Dhaka’s Paltan area this evening (31 October).
According to police sources, the SUV was being driven by Sibgat Ullah’s son.
The accident occurred on Box Culvert Road in Paltan around 8pm today (31 October), leaving the rickshaw puller, identified as Sultan, 60, seriously injured, Paltan Police Station Inspector (investigation) Shafikul Islam confirmed to The Business Standard.
Pedestrians rescued Sultan and took him to the National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopaedic Rehabilitation (Nitor), commonly known as Pangu Hospital, for treatment.
Shafikul said the rickshaw puller was currently undergoing treatment at the hospital.
The front portion of Sibgat’s Ullah’s personal car was also damaged in the incident. Police seized the vehicle and took it to Paltan Police Station.
However, the driver could not be detained.
Confirming that Sibgat’s SUV was in police custody, Inspector Shafikul said, “We have also heard that his son was driving the vehicle, but we have yet to confirm the information.”
