The Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Posts, Telecommunications, and Information Technology Ministry yesterday (30 September) called for expanding affordable and reliable internet services, strengthening cybersecurity, and improving digital services for citizens.
The recommendations came at the committee’s first meeting at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban, chaired by BNP MP from Sunamganj-5, Kalim Uddin Ahmed.
The committee reviewed the manpower and functions of departments and agencies under the ministry, their achievements, and their future plans. Officials briefed members on policy formulation and implementation in the posts and telecommunications sectors, spectrum management, the telecom industry, parcel services, and ongoing Wi-Fi initiatives.
The meeting was informed of plans to introduce Wi-Fi at airports, improve land services, reduce internet costs, use Bangladesh Telecommunications Company Limited’s (BTCL) unused assets, and expand postal parcel services.
