The Bangladesh Public Service Commission (PSC) will recruit 5,000 doctors in the health cadre through the 51st BCS (Special) Examination 2026.
In a notice, signed by Examination Controller (Cadre) Masuma Afrin, today (24 September), the PSC said that of the 5,000 posts, 4,700 are for assistant surgeons and 300 for assistant dental surgeons.
Applicants must hold an MBBS or BDS degree, or an equivalent qualification.
Online applications will open at 10am on 1 October and close at 6pm on 25 October. Candidates who obtain a user ID within the application period will have a further 72 hours, until 6pm on 28 October, to pay the application fee via Teletalk SMS.
The application fee is Tk205, including a Tk5 data verification fee. Candidates from ethnic minority communities, persons with disabilities and third-gender candidates will pay Tk55.
The notice said applications would be cancelled if candidates outside these categories pay the reduced fee.
Candidates must be aged between 21 and 32 as of 1 September 2026, and they can apply through bpsc.teletalk.com.bd or the PSC website, bpsc.gov.bd.
Appeared candidates can apply
Candidates who have appeared in the final MBBS or BDS examination can also apply as “appeared” candidates, according to the notice.
However, they must complete their written examination by 25 October and subsequently obtain the required degree. Their candidature will be cancelled if they fail any subject.
Candidates with foreign medical degrees must submit an equivalence certificate issued by the Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council (BMDC) during the viva voce. They will not be allowed to sit for the viva without the original certificate.
The written examination is likely to be held in November. Although the examination is scheduled to be held only in Dhaka, the commission may set up centres outside the capital depending on the number of candidates.
300-mark exam
The 51st BCS special examination will carry a total of 300 marks, with 200 marks for a multiple-choice written examination and 100 marks for the viva voce.
The two-hour MCQ examination will include 20 marks each for Bangla, English, Bangladesh affairs, and international affairs, and 10 marks each for mental ability and mathematical reasoning.
The remaining 100 marks will cover subjects related to the relevant cadre.
For every incorrect answer, 0.5 marks will be deducted.
Candidates must secure at least 50 marks in the viva to pass.
Candidates recommended for appointment must meet the prescribed physical requirements. Male candidates must be at least 152.40cm tall and weigh at least 49.99kg, while female candidates must be at least 147.32cm tall and weigh at least 43.54kg.
Candidates with disabilities who wish to use a scribe during the examination must apply to the commission by 3 November.
The notice also said attempts to lobby or exert influence on behalf of any candidate would be considered grounds for cancellation of candidature.
