The Chattogram metropolitan unit of the National Citizen Party (NCP) today (22 September) protested against the recent fuel price hike, demanding its immediate withdrawal.
The protest rally was held at the Chattogram Press Club premises in Jamal Khan this afternoon.
The programme was presided over by NCP Chattogram metropolitan unit Convener Mir Mohammad Shoaib and moderated by Ridwan Hridoy, the unit’s publicity and publication secretary.
Speakers at the rally said the fuel price hike would increase pressure on transport costs, agriculture and the prices of essential commodities.
They said the additional financial burden on ordinary people was unacceptable and alleged that shifting the burden onto consumers to cover up mismanagement and irregularities in the energy sector would not be tolerated.
The speakers warned that if the increased prices were not withdrawn soon, they would launch a continuous street movement with the participation of people in Chattogram.
Following the rally, NCP leaders and activists brought out a procession from the Press Club premises. It passed through Jamal Khan intersection and ended at Cheragi Pahar intersection.
The government raised the prices of diesel, kerosene, petrol and octane by Tk20 per litre from yesterday (21 September).
