Education minister urges schools to help tackle drug abuse

Education Minister ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon has called for educational institutions to take a more active role in tackling drug abuse in the country.

He made the call at a discussion titled “Education System: Cumilla Concept” at the Ministry of Education today (20 September).

“Education has an important role to play in reducing the drug problem. Alongside using educational institutions, teachers, educationists, social workers and respected members of the community must work together,” the minister said.

Milon said educating students alone was not enough and that schools and colleges should also help develop their moral values.

“Teachers are like guardians to students. Every teacher should teach students by considering them as their own children,” he said.

He stressed the need for families and educational institutions to work together to ensure students grow up in a healthy environment.

The minister expressed hope that the “Cumilla Concept” would play an important role in improving the country’s education system.

Cumilla-6 MP Md Manirul Haque Chowdhury, heads of various educational institutions in the Cumilla region and officials concerned attended the meeting.
