PM urges students to maintain cleanliness to prevent dengue

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman today (8 September) urged students to keep their homes, educational institutions and surrounding areas clean to help prevent the spread of dengue.

He also advised them to play sports and exercise regularly alongside their studies and to show care and compassion towards animals.

The prime minister made the remarks while meeting students of Netrokona’s Kolmakanda Girls’ High School in front of the Prime Minister’s Office at the parliament complex around 5:30pm.

A total of 42 students from the school visited Parliament to observe a parliamentary session. They were accompanied by five teachers and two members of the school’s governing body.

Addressing the students, Tarique Rahman urged them to remain alert to prevent dengue and ensure that water does not remain stagnant in and around their homes.

“Regular cleanliness can go a long way in preventing the spread of dengue,” he said.

Urging the students to develop the habit of cleanliness at home, he said, “You should keep yourselves clean and also make your family members, friends and neighbours aware. Your small initiatives can help build a clean and healthy society.”

During the meeting, the prime minister asked the students about their studies, including which classes they attend, their academic performance and what they aspire to become in the future.

Highlighting the importance of sports for physical and mental development, he said students should not focus only on textbooks.

“To grow up healthy and well, you need to play sports and exercise regularly. You must use your time properly and strive to become good human beings,” he said.

The prime minister also urged the students to be compassionate towards animals.

“We must also care for helpless and defenceless animals around us. No animal should be treated cruelly. Compassion and a sense of responsibility towards animals are signs of a humane society,” he said.

During their visit, the students were given an opportunity to meet the prime minister.

The students expressed joy at getting the opportunity to speak directly with Tarique Rahman and said they were keen to follow his advice in their lives and share the messages with their families, school and community.
