Narayanganj district Krishak Dal Joint Convener Alamin Iqbal has been expelled from the organisation for allegedly violating party discipline through Facebook posts criticising the country’s law and order situation and electricity supply.
The expulsion was announced in a notice signed by Krishak Dal Office Secretary Md Shafiqul Islam last night (31 August).
Alamin confirmed the expulsion, saying his criticism of the country’s law and order situation and electricity supply had led to the action.
According to the notice, he was expelled from all party posts, including his primary membership, over “specific allegations” of involvement in activities contrary to the party’s discipline, ideology and organisational interests.
Krishak Dal central committee President Krishibid Hasan Zafir Tuhin and General Secretary Shahidul Islam Babul approved the decision, the notice said.
Alamin said the party office secretary called him and asked why he was writing Facebook posts criticising the government.
“I told him that I wrote what is true about the country’s electricity and law and order situation. I used to criticise the Awami League government in the same way. If telling the truth is my crime, then give me whatever punishment you want. They expelled me from the party that night,” he said.
Asked whether he was angry over the expulsion, Alamin said he was not.
“I did not join the party after 5 August. I have been involved in BNP politics courageously since the Awami League period. I am not someone who lives by selling party posts and positions. There is democracy in the country, and I criticised the government because I believe in that democracy,” he said.
