The Parliament Secretariat has declared the Thakurgaon-1 parliamentary seat vacant after Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, who won the constituency in the 13th Jatiya Sangsad election, assumed office as the new President of Bangladesh.
The constituency was declared vacant under Article 50(4) of the Constitution from the date Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir assumed office as the President, according to a gazette notification signed by Barrister Md Golam Sorwar Bhuiyan, Secretary of the Parliament Secretariat, here today (22 August).
