Police recovered the hanging body of a 20-year-old man from Sudha Sadan, the former residence of ex-prime minister Sheikh Hasina in the Dhanmondi area of the capital today (25 July).
The deceased was identified as Shakil, son of Sekandar Ali Matubbar and Asma Begum. He lived in the Rayerbazar area in the capital.
Police said the body was recovered around 11am after locals informed them. It was later sent to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue for an autopsy following due procedures.
The information was confirmed by Dhanmondi Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Saiful Islam.
He told The Business Standard that police recovered the hanging body with a noose around the neck of the young man in the morning after being alerted by local residents.
The deceased was identified by the Crime Scene Unit of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) through fingerprint analysis.
The OC said the victim was from Madaripur and had been living with his family. His wife, Farzana Akter Sathi, told police that her husband was addicted to drugs. She had left him and returned to her parents’ home about four months ago following a family dispute.
The OC added that the victim’s wife has filed an unnatural death case over the incident.
The exact cause of death has not yet been determined, and an investigation is underway, the OC further added.
