The second session of the 13th Parliament will resume yesterday (6 July) after a week-long recess following the passage of the Tk9,38,000-crore national budget for FY2026-27 on 30 June.
Today’s sitting is scheduled to begin at 3pm. The Public Examinations (Offences) (Amendment) Bill, 2026, is expected to be passed, introducing revisions to the existing 1980 law.
In addition, the Bogura University Bill, 2026, will be placed in the House, proposing the abolition of the existing Bogura University of Science and Technology, according to the session agenda.
At the start of the sitting, a question-and-answer session will be held involving the Ministry of Water Resources, the Law and Justice Division, the Legislative and Parliamentary Affairs Division, the Ministry of Public Administration, the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock, and the Bangladesh Public Service Commission.
The second session was adjourned on 30 June immediately after the passage of the Tk9,38,000-crore national budget for FY27. Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury placed the proposed budget on 11 June, four days after the budget session began on 7 June.
Parliamentary proceedings on the budget were extensive, with 291 MPs taking part in the 45 hours and 51 minutes of general discussion – 200 from the ruling party and 91 from the opposition.
Earlier, 25 MPs – 18 from the ruling party and seven from the opposition – participated in the discussion on the supplementary budget for the FY26 fiscal year, which lasted three hours and three minutes.
In total, 316 MPs contributed to discussions on both the national and supplementary budgets, spanning a combined 48 hours and 51 minutes.
