Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Mosleh Uddin Ahmed has urged authorities to refrain from digging up roads during Eid-ul-Adha to ensure smooth travel for homebound passengers.
He made the call today (18 May) at a security coordination meeting held at the DMP headquarters conference room ahead of the upcoming Eid-ul-Adha.
Calling on the relevant authorities to avoid road excavation during the Eid period, the DMP commissioner said all government agencies must work in coordination to ensure safe and uninterrupted travel during the holiday.
“The state and the city belong to all of us. Everyone must act responsibly from their respective positions to keep the city and the country functional and well-organised,” he said.
He added that special police drives against extortionists, muggers and drugs are ongoing.
The meeting was attended by representatives from various intelligence agencies, specialised police units, the Department of Shipping, Bangladesh Road Transport Owners’ Association, Bangladesh Road Transport Federation, Bangladesh Truck-Covered Van Owners’ Association, Bangladesh Truck Drivers Workers Federation, Bangladesh Bus-Truck Owners Association, launch workers’ unions, BKMEA, BGMEA, Gazipur Metropolitan Police (GMP), Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA), Roads and Highways Department, Dhaka South City Corporation, Dhaka North City Corporation, Fire Service and Civil Defence, bus and launch owners’ associations, Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Organisation, and other public and private service providers.
At the beginning of the meeting, DMP Joint Police Commissioner (Operations) Mohammad Shahidullah presented the overall security plan through a PowerPoint presentation. Representatives of different organisations later took part in an open discussion and shared their views.
