At least five people were injured in a clash between activists of Islami Chhatra Shibir and Jatiyotabadi Chhatra Dal at Ishwardi Government College in Pabna this morning (23 April), reportedly centring a series of retaliatory programmes linked to an earlier incident at Chattogram City College.
Confirming the matter, Ishwardi Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Asaduzzaman said additional police personnel have been deployed in and around the area to maintain law and order.
The confrontation took place on the college campus when supporters of both student organisations gathered for their previously announced programmes.
Tensions escalated between the two groups, eventually leading to a chase and counter-chase.
Two crude bombs were reportedly detonated during the incident.
Local sources said the injured individuals from both groups were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment.
Following the incident, Shibir activists brought out a procession and gathered at the railway gate area of Ishwardi, where they staged a protest.
They chanted slogans demanding punishment for those involved.
