5 BGB platoons deployed in Gopalganj ahead of 15 August

Authorities have stepped up security across Gopalganj to maintain law and order, deploying five platoons of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) alongside the district police ahead of 15 August.

Additional police have been stationed at key roads, intersections, government establishments and public gathering places across the district. Intelligence surveillance has also been intensified, while round-the-clock patrols are being carried out, officials said.

Security has also been reinforced in Tungipara, where police, Armed Police Battalion (APBn) personnel and plainclothes law enforcers have been deployed at the three gates of the Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Mausoleum Complex and surrounding areas.

Around 5:45pm, a joint patrol led by Deputy Commissioner Md Arif-Uz-Zaman and Superintendent of Police Md Habibullah set out from the deputy commissioner’s office. 

The patrol passed through the district town, proceeded to the Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Mausoleum Complex in Tungipara and returned to the district town.

Md Habibullah, superintendent of police (SP) of Gopalganj, said the district had remained peaceful since 1 August.

“As you know, Gopalganj is a peaceful district. No incidents of violence have occurred here since 1 August, and we hope there will be none tomorrow either. Nevertheless, BGB and other law enforcement agencies will remain vigilant to ensure there is no deterioration in the law-and-order situation on 15 August,” he said.

Deputy Commissioner Md Arif-Uz-Zaman said five BGB platoons would remain deployed in the district to prevent any deterioration of the law and order situation on 15 August.

“BGB personnel have been deployed from today and will assist law enforcement agencies tomorrow,” he added.
