Four people have been killed and at least 10 others injured after a long-distance bus of Islam Paribahan broke through a road divider and crashed into an Akash Paribahan bus in Dhaka city.
The accident occurred around 6am today (27 May) in the capital’s Nadda area under Bhatara Police Station. The identities of the deceased could not be known immediately, police said.
Bhatara police Sub-Inspector (SI) Nesar Uddin said the Islam Paribahan bus, with five to seven passengers, was travelling from Patuakhali towards Badda, and was speeding. When it reached the Nadda area, the driver reportedly lost control, broke through the road divider and overturned after crashing into the Akash Paribahan bus travelling on the opposite side of the road.
One passenger of the Akash Paribahan bus died on the spot, while three others died after being taken to the hospital, he said.
The injured passengers were hospitalised as well.
Police impounded both buses, but the driver and helper of the Islam Paribahan bus managed to flee the scene, said SI Nesar.
