Government employees will get a total of 29 public holidays in 2027, including 15 general holidays and 14 holidays declared by executive order.
However, seven of these holidays will fall on Fridays or Saturdays, reducing the effective number of holidays on working days to 22.
The Cabinet approved the list of public holidays for 2027 at a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman at the Secretariat today (2 November).
Cabinet Secretary Nasimul Ghani disclosed the decision at a press briefing in the Directorate of Information conference room after the meeting.
Of the 29 holidays, 15 will be general holidays and 14 will be declared by executive order. As seven holidays coincide with weekly holidays, the effective number of days off will be 22.
In 2026, government employees were scheduled to get 28 public holidays, comprising 14 general holidays and 14 holidays declared by executive order. The number will therefore increase by one day next year.
The Ministry of Public Administration issued the holiday schedule for 2026 through a notification on 9 November 2025. Bangladesh Bank subsequently published a separate holiday schedule for banks based on that list.
The dates of religious holidays dependent on moon sightings may change.
