The Detective Branch (DB) of the Chattogram Metropolitan Police has arrested two arms traders and recovered 150 rounds of bullets for foreign-made live pistols during an operation in the city.
The arrests were made following a special drive conducted around 1:30pm yesterday by detectives, according to a press release issued today (9 May).
The arrested individuals are Md Faisal Ahmed Rony and Aminul Haque Bappi.
According to police, the drive targeted illegal arms recovery in the city. Acting on a tip-off, officers arrested Rony at a fast-food shop in the Khulshi Police Station area.
During the search, 139 rounds of bullets, reportedly of Indian origin, were recovered in the presence of locals.
Based on Rony’s information, the DB later arrested Bappi in the Dampara area under Chawkbazar Police Station and recovered an additional 11 rounds of foreign-made bullets from his possession.
In total, 150 rounds of foreign pistol bullets were seized from the two suspects.
During preliminary interrogation, the suspects said they had collected the bullets from sources in the hill tracts and kept them for use in criminal activities in the Chattogram metropolitan area. Legal procedures are underway, the CMP said.
