A fire swept through a residential area in Chattogram’s Halishahar this morning (2 June), destroying 15 houses and causing an estimated Tk10-12 lakh in damages.
The blaze broke out in the I block, road no. 4 area of Halishahar around 9:50am and spread rapidly, reducing the houses to ashes within a short time, said Monem Billah, an official of the Bandar Fire Service Station.
He told The Business Standard that the fire originated from a wood-burning stove in one of the houses.
No casualties were reported in the incident.
Upon receiving the information, four firefighting units from the Bandar and Agrabad fire stations rushed to the scene and began rescue and containment efforts.
After nearly 40 minutes of operation, firefighters brought the fire under control at around 10:40am.
