A series of separate road and rail accidents in Dhaka, Sylhet, Chapainawabganj, Magura, and Mymensingh today (3 May) left multiple people dead and several others injured.
Authorities in all five districts have launched investigations into the crashes, with preliminary findings pointing to possible driver fatigue, reckless driving, and loss of control in multiple cases.
Bus crushes motorbike in Banani
A motorcyclist, Shahadat, was killed after being run over by a passenger bus in Banani, Dhaka, today, around 4:30pm, in front of the Road Building office. The rider carrying him was also injured.
Banani Police Station operations inspector Moin Uddin confirmed Shahadat died on the spot after the bus ran over his head, with his body sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for autopsy.
Police and witnesses said ride-sharing motorcyclists Al-Amin and Bappi were carrying two passengers from near Airport Railway Station to Tejgaon when the accident occurred.
Truck-pickup collision leaves at Least eight dead in Sylhet
At least eight construction workers, including two women, were killed when a truck collided head-on with a pickup van in the Telibazar area of South Surma, Sylhet, around 6am on the Sylhet–Dhaka highway.
Fire service officials said the truck driver may have fallen asleep, while locals claimed his assistant was driving at the time of the crash. The pickup was carrying workers and construction equipment, including a cement mixing machine.
Md Reazul Kabir, deputy commissioner (South) of Sylhet Metropolitan Police, said the workers were heading to Lalabazar for construction work. Four died on the spot and four later at the hospital.
Two brothers killed in Chapainawabganj crash
In Chapainawabganj’s Nachole upazila, a man and his teenage brother-in-law were killed early today when a truck hit their motorcycle in the Benipur area around 5:45am.
The deceased were identified as Rabiul Islam Jisan, 27, and Sohagh Hossain, 17. Police said they were travelling toward Dhansura when the truck struck them from the opposite direction. They were declared dead at Nachole Upazila Health Complex. The truck was seized.
Pedestrian killed in bus-truck collision in Magura
A 75-year-old man, Abdul Kuddus, was killed in Magura Sadar upazila after a bus and truck collided on the Magura-Dhaka highway today morning.
He was standing near the Primary Teachers Training Institute when he was struck after the vehicles lost control. He was declared dead at Magura 250-bed Hospital.
Man run over by train in Mymensingh
In Mymensingh, an unidentified man, around 50, was killed after being hit by the Haor Express in the Shambhuganj railway station area around 10am.
Railway police said the train, travelling from Mohanganj to Dhaka, struck him while he was walking along the tracks. Efforts are underway to identify him.
