Every song that Zach Bryan has ever released, his former commanding officer in the US Navy gets a share of the royalties.
The country singer recently caught up with Matthew McConaughey, following the release of his latest album, Young Manhood and Other Donatable Organs and talked about the role of his former commanding officer, Alba, in Zach’s music career.
Zach told the Interstellar star, “He’s the reason, man. He’s the reason I recorded any songs ever at all. I thought it was justified, man.
“He’s the reason I have any music at all.”
The 30-year-old musician explained that Alba supported his musical ambitions while he was still serving in the Navy.
“I wouldn’t be who I was without him f****** looking at me and saying I can record those songs. His kids call me their uncle, he comes to shows all the time and I give him a percentage of every song that I release,” he continued.
Zach also noted the royalties have helped his former officer financially.
“Because that’s how much that meant to me. Him believing in me enough to do that for me,” he said. “We see each other when we can.”
For those unversed, Zach served in the US Navy from 2013 to 2021.
He received an honourable discharge to focus on music full-time after his song Heading South had gone viral.
Touching upon his military background, Zach said, “I was really proud to be in the Navy because I was in the boots of my grandfather and in the boots of my father. The Navy made a man out of me.”
