Two people, including a woman, were injured after unidentified assailants opened fire in Pallabi in the capital today (7 August).
One of the injured was identified as Alamgir, 45, who police said is involved in BNP politics. The other victim was identified as Josna, 50, according to police.
The incident took place around 6pm on Road 2 of Millat Camp in Pallabi under Mirpur Police Station, confirmed Mohammad Mostak Sarkar, deputy commissioner of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s Mirpur division
The injured were initially taken to Islami Bank Hospital before being referred to Kurmitola General Hospital for better treatment, police and local sources said.
“Two people were injured in the shooting. Alamgir sustained gunshot wounds to his head and near his waist, while the woman was shot in the leg. They were taken to hospital. Police are working on the incident,” the deputy commissioner told TBS.
According to police and local sources, the shooting may have stemmed from a dispute over drug dealing and establishing territorial control.
They alleged that several people, including local drug dealers Langra Rubel and Bappa, opened fire on Alamgir with the intention of killing him. The woman was also hit by the gunfire at the time.
Police are investigating the incident.
