‘We will kill you before Apa arrives in December’: Jubo League activists allegedly tell Jamaat leader before stabbing him in Narayanganj

A Jamaat-e-Islami leader was allegedly stabbed by Jubo League activists in Narayanganj after one of the attackers told him, “Apa is coming in December. We will kill you before she arrives,” according to the victim.

Jasim Uddin, president of Jamaat’s Ward 7 unit in Fatullah, said several Jubo League activists attacked him in the Kayempur area around 8pm last night (3 September).

Fatullah Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mahbub Alam said police were sent to the scene after receiving the report.

“One person, identified as Ahmed, has been detained. Efforts are underway to nab the other attackers,” he said.

The victim, Jasim, said several Jubo League activists, including Shahadat, an associate of Faizul, general secretary of the Fatullah thana unit of the organisation, had recently been released on bail after his arrest in a case filed over activities during the 2024 Students Against Discrimination movement.

“Since then, he has been following me with his associates,” he added.

According to him, Shahadat and his associates intercepted him near his home after evening prayers.

“Shahadat told me that I had helped MP Al Amin [Narayanganj-4 lawmaker Abdullah Al Amin from the NCP] and Jamaat Ameer Abdul Zabbar [for the city] get them arrested.

“He then said, ‘Apa is coming in December. We will kill you before she arrives,’ and started beating me up,” Jasim said.

Then the attackers struck him on the head and different parts of his body with a switchblade before leaving, he stated.

Later, locals took Jasim to his home. However, he said the attackers assaulted him again at the same spot while he was on his way to the hospital, before locals intervened and rescued him.
