Travis Scott is setting his sights on becoming a film director and producer in addition to his music career.
The rapper has already appeared in several film projects over the years, most recently taking part in Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey. While he enjoys acting, Scott has shared that he feels more drawn to creative roles behind the camera, such as directing, producing, and sound design.
“I would love to act more. I respect the true talents of the people that wake up every day and really grind,” he recently told Variety. “I feel like (behind the camera is) where I can shine the most. I love acting, but that’s way cooler.”
He explained that although he respects actors who dedicate themselves fully to the craft, he personally feels most inspired working behind the scenes.
“Nobody was in their trailer,” he recalled. “That was new for me; I was used to doing what I’m doing and going back to the trailer. But I was really wanting to learn, so I didn’t really want to be in the trailer anyway.”
To learn more about filmmaking, Scott spent time on set of The Odyssey observing Nolan and the film’s cinematographer closely, even when he wasn’t needed for scenes.
“I’m looking in the camera. I’m all under the hood,” he added. “Ain’t no kicking it.”
He said he wanted to be fully involved in the process, rather than staying in his trailer between takes. He asked questions throughout production and paid close attention to how shots were set up.
Scott shared that one of the biggest lessons he took away from working with Nolan was the importance of staying committed to a creative vision from start to finish.
“Always see the vision through. Never go short on the vision,” Scott said,
Scott has previously directed music videos and a film tied to his 2023 album. He is now expected to develop new film and television projects through a new partnership with Paramount Pictures, though details about upcoming projects have not yet been announced.
