Tom Cruise is reportedly considering Charlize Theron for a lead role in The Edge of Tomorrow 2, with sources saying the move may be about more than business.
According to Globe, the 64-year-old actor is interested in Charlize not just for business reasons but potentially for a romantic relationship as well.
“Charlize has been on Tom’s radar for a long time and he’s incredibly impressed by her,” the source told the outet.
“The timing is right for him and Charlize to get together and do something big and interesting,” the insider added.
Tom and Charlize have not shared the silver screen despite decades in the entertainment industry.
In 2008, Vulture reported that Charlize was in talks to star alongside Tom in The Tourist, but the roles ultimately went to Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie.
“Putting them in a film together, be it Edge of Tomorrow 2 or something else, makes a ton of sense. In fact, it’s long overdue,” the source said.
“She has that same ‘no guts, no glory’ risk-taking attitude that made Tom an international superstar in the first place and like Tom, she sees moviemaking not as just a job but a calling,” a tipster continued.
The source hinted that for the Mission: Impossible star, “it’s about more than just business.”
The insider further told the publication that Tom was crushed when things with Ana de Armas ended last year, but is now ready to get back into the dating game.
“He’s been intrigued by Charlize and her approach to life for years now,” the source spilled. “But now that both of them are single and both are looking for their next big action movie, there’s a real opportunity here for collaboration and even romance.”
