Veteran politician, one of the key organisers of Liberation War, former industries and commerce minister, and nine-time lawmaker Tofail Ahmed was laid to rest in Bhola today (2 June) amid an outpouring of respect and tributes from thousands of people across political divides.
A state guard of honour was accorded to him at Bhola Government High School ground at noon. People from all walks of life later paid their final respects by placing wreaths on his coffin, which was draped in the national flag.
Earlier, Tofail’s body was flown from Dhaka to Bhola by helicopter at around 1:15pm. People from different parts of the district began arriving at the venue from around 12:30pm to attend his janaza, with large crowds eventually filling the ground.
Following the second janaza, his body was taken to his ancestral home in Koralia village under South Dighaldi union of Bhola Sadar upazila. A third janaza was held in the mosque courtyard there.
He was later buried beside the graves of his parents at the family cemetery.
