Three suspected members of an inter-district motorcycle theft ring have been arrested in Munshiganj, while police recovered five stolen or suspected stolen motorcycles during separate raids that also led to the seizure of 1,100 yaba pills and 2kg of marijuana.
The District Detective Branch (DB) Police arrested Md Sumon, 25, Hridoy Dewan, 30, and Sajib Paik, 24.
Munshiganj Superintendent of Police Md Menhajul Alam disclosed the information at a press briefing today (13 July).
Police said a black Suzuki 250cc motorcycle belonging to Md Sajib of Jazira upazila in Shariatpur was stolen on 9 July from in front of Nurani Jame Mosque at the Paschim Kumarbhog intersection under Padma Bridge (North) Police Station.
After a case was filed, a DB team arrested Sumon from Narayanganj last night based on intelligence and information technology. The stolen Suzuki motorcycle was recovered from his possession.

Based on Sumon’s information, police arrested Hridoy Dewan from Betka Bazar in Tongibari and seized an unregistered Discover 125cc motorcycle.
Acting on information provided by Hridoy, police later arrested Sajib Paik from Amtali and recovered a Hunk 150cc motorcycle, which was seized on suspicion of being stolen.
During the operation, police also recovered two unregistered Pulsar 150cc motorcycles with tampered engine and chassis numbers from behind a tailor shop in the Goalimandra area of Louhajang upazila.
Police said efforts are underway to identify the owners of the recovered motorcycles.
According to DB Police, the arrested men admitted during preliminary interrogation that they had been stealing motorcycles from Munshiganj and neighbouring districts for a long time before selling them after changing number plates and parts.
During a separate raid at the same tailor shop in Goalimandra, police recovered 1,100 yaba pills and 2kg of marijuana.
Police named Alal, also known as Alauddin, in connection with the narcotics recovery, saying he fled the scene during the raid.
Police said legal action has been taken against the three arrested suspects. Drives are continuing to identify the owners of the recovered motorcycles and to arrest other members of the alleged theft ring.
