Police have recovered the body of a teenage boy buried at a Buddhist cremation ground in Chattogram’s Rangunia upazila.
The body of the deceased, identified as Mofizur Rahman, 15, was recovered yesterday (22 May) from the Dudh Pukuriyapara area of Padua union.
South Rangunia Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Hilal Uddin Ahmed said, “The body has been sent to Chattogram Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy. The case is being investigated seriously and legal action will be taken against those involved.”
“The victim’s mother has been taken into custody for questioning in connection with the incident,” the OC added.
According to police, they conducted the recovery operation around 11am after identifying a recently disturbed patch of soil at the cremation ground based on local suspicions.
A general diary (GD) had earlier been filed over the boy’s disappearance.
The investigators are probing a possible link between the teenager’s disappearance and the suicide of a local man, Maku Alam, 38, who reportedly died by self-poisoning on 21 May.
OC Hilal said, “Following the missing GD and the suicide, we conducted an operation and recovered the body.”
