Swiss envoy calls on State Minister Humaiun, discusses trade, skills development boost

The Switzerland ambassador to Bangladesh, Reto Renggli, today (7 September) called on State Minister for Foreign Affairs Humaiun Kobir at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and discussed ways to expand bilateral trade and investment.

During the meeting, Renggli congratulated Kobir on assuming office and expressed confidence that the longstanding friendly relations between Bangladesh and Switzerland would be further strengthened.

The issues both sides discussed included greater Swiss investment in promising sectors of Bangladesh’s economy, according to a press release.

They identified economic partnership as a key pillar of bilateral relations and agreed to pursue practical measures to expand technical and vocational skills development opportunities for Bangladesh’s workforce.

Humaiun underscored the importance of regular exchanges in strengthening political, cultural and people-to-people ties between the two countries.

Renggli expressed hope that the operationalisation of Bangladesh’s new embassy in Bern would help deepen and broaden bilateral relations.

The two sides also reaffirmed their commitment to democracy, human rights, multilateralism, respect for international law and a rules-based international order.

They agreed to work together in multilateral forums to uphold these shared values.

Appreciating Bangladesh’s generosity in hosting a large number of Rohingyas, the Swiss ambassador reaffirmed Switzerland’s continued support for their voluntary, safe and sustainable repatriation to Myanmar.

He also reiterated Switzerland’s commitment to supporting international efforts to find a durable solution to the Rohingya crisis.
