Police have arrested six leaders and activists of the banned Chhatra League, filing a case under the Anti-Terrorism Act over a flash procession held in Chattogram city.
Police said this morning (21 June) that more than 50 leaders and activists held a sudden procession under Chhatra League’s banner in the city’s Kotwali area yesterday and chanted slogans.
The incident came to the attention of law enforcement after a video of the procession spread on social media.
Following the incident, police arrested six people through drives conducted using technology, CCTV footage, video analysis and intelligence.
Md Iqbal Hossain, inspector (investigation) of Kotwali Police Station, told The Business Standard, “They were arrested through drives in different areas under Kotwali Police Station. Police are conducting operations to catch the rest of those involved.”
Police said the names and identities of the arrested individuals will be disclosed officially at a later stage.
According to police, the procession lasted only a few minutes. Participants dispersed into nearby alleys before members of law enforcement agencies could reach the spot.
A case was later filed at Kotwali Police Station under the Anti-Terrorism Act over the incident.
As part of the investigation, efforts are underway to identify and bring others involved under the law through the review of video footage and intelligence.
