Scarlett Johansson is letting her fans in on her health and beauty routine, including wellness habits she credits for helping her feel her best.
In a resurfaced interview from nearly pone year ago, the 41-year-old actress shared that taking magnesium before bed was one practice that helped with sleep and overall recovery.
“I take magnesium at night. It helps me sleep. I feel like it’s good for recovery,” she told The Zoe Report in an interview published in October 2024. “It’s good for your entire central nervous system,” she added.
She’s sworn by magnesium in other interviews too, where she said she noticed positive effects on her digestion and general wellbeing since adding it to her routine.
“I know that everybody is taking magnesium now. It’s so helpful,” she said in an interview with Byrdie around the same time. “It really makes a huge difference, especially in my digestion and my recovery, it’s awesome.”
Johansson has also admitted to taking a vegan collagen supplement, which a friend recommended to help improve hair growth and texture, even though her dermatologist doesn’t have faith in the particular ritual.
“I don’t know. My dermatologist was like, ‘It’s everything you put on your skin, that’s what counts. Anything you’re taking internally, none of that is working,'” Johansson recalled, adding that she decided to try it anyway.
“I’m like, “I don’t believe you. I’m going to try this out.'”
In terms of skincare, Johansson keeps her nighttime routine fairly simple with a gentle cleanser from her own skincare brand, followed by a hydrating serum and moisturizer, sometimes adding a few drops of facial oil.
In the mornings, she follows a similar routine, adding an eye cream before applying light makeup, usually just concealer, mascara, and a bit of blush and eyeshadow.
“I don’t wear a full face of makeup every day, [just] foundation and concealer, so I don’t have a full face to wash off,” Johansson added, explaining that with two young children to get ready for school each morning, she doesn’t always have time for a full beauty routine right away, and often saves more elaborate steps for later in the day.
“They’ve got to go to school,” she added. “I don’t always have time to put makeup on. Sometimes that’s a step later in the day.”
She also spoke about her approach to fitness, sharing that she exercises a few times a week.
“I love to do Pilates. I’ve been doing Pilates for about 10 years now, and I just love it. I find it to be challenging and also restorative. I feel like it gives me energy,” she added.
“It’s not energy consuming like some workouts that I’ve done, where you really need to recover. I don’t have that lifestyle anymore,” she explained. “I have to do exercise that is invigorating, and Pilates is that for me.”
