The ongoing blockade on the tourist road in Sajek union of Rangamati’s Baghaichhari upazila will be relaxed for one day on Sunday (1 November) to allow local residents to meet their basic needs.
The blockade, now in its third phase, has continued for nine consecutive days, according to a press release issued today (30 October).
Babudhan Chakma and Natun Joy Chakma announced the decision on behalf of the Sajek Public Rights Protection Committee and the Sajek Karbari Association.
The statement said the indefinite blockade would resume as usual from 2 November.
The two organisations also said special relaxation arrangements would be made through discussions to allow Buddhist devotees to observe the Kathina Chibar Dana festival without disruption.
Authorities of Buddhist religious institutions and monasteries have been asked to contact the organisations enforcing the blockade to make arrangements for the festival, the press release added.
