Barrister Rumeen Farhana has sought departmental and legal action against Deputy Attorney General Nazrul Islam Choton over an allegedly “derogatory” Facebook post targeting her.
The lawmaker for Brahmanbaria-2 also raised the matter before a High Court bench today (14 September).
Rumeen brought the issue before the bench of Justice Kazi Md Ejarul Haque Akand and Justice Nasrin Akter during the hearing of a case in which she was appearing as a lawyer.
When the case, listed as item 36 on the day’s cause list, was called for hearing, Rumeen showed the court Choton’s Facebook post and alleged that it reflected personal hostility toward her.
She requested the court not to allow Choton to represent the state in any case involving her, arguing that he might make submissions against her out of personal resentment.
Following her request, the court asked Assistant Attorney General Md Sagar Hossain, who was also assigned to the bench, to appear for the state instead of Choton in that case.
During the hearing, Sagar told the court that the accused in the case was a habitual offender and had 11 previous yaba cases against him. The court later said the matter would be heard after the vacation.
Meanwhile, Rumeen submitted a written complaint against Deputy Attorney General Choton to the Attorney General’s Office. An administrative official of the office confirmed receipt of the complaint to the media.
In the complaint, Rumeen alleged that Choton had posted an “objectionable, defamatory and distasteful” status from his personal Facebook account on 11 September 2026.

Rumeen said such conduct by a serving state law officer was not only insulting to her as a woman and elected representative, but also damaging to the image and professionalism of the Attorney General’s Office.
She said the Attorney General’s Office represents Bangladesh, not any political party, and argued that such use of social media by a deputy attorney general was unacceptable.
Rumeen urged the attorney general to consider the matter seriously and take departmental and appropriate legal action against Choton.
