The Rajshahi University Central Students’ Union (Rucsu) staged a human chain today (5 October) protesting the alleged attack by Bangladesh Jatiyotabadi Chhatra Dal activists on journalists working at Rajshahi University.
The programme was held on Paris Road on the university campus in the afternoon.
Speaking at the programme, Rucsu Vice-President Mostakur Rahman Jahid warned that Chhatra Dal could face consequences similar to those faced by the Awami League and Bangladesh Chhatra League if it continued what he described as “terrorist activities”.
“If Chhatra Dal does not stop its terrorist activities, another ‘July’ will come down on the country. Their fate will also be like that of the Awami League and Chhatra League,” he said.
Jahid also strongly criticised the university administration, alleging that it was attempting to erase evidence of the incident.
“The RU administration is busy trying to erase evidence. They themselves have admitted that the administration has failed,” he said.
The human chain condemned the alleged attack on journalists, vandalism of students’ rooms and what the organisers described as the administration’s silence over the incidents.
