A Bangladesh Railway staff member allegedly stabbed a father and his son during an argument over boarding the Sundarban Express at Kushtia Court Railway Station today (25 July), leading to protests that halted the Khulna-bound train for nearly two hours.
The injured are Shafiul Awal Sumon, 40, and his father Abdur Rahim, 65, who sustained injuries to their hands.
The incident occurred around 12:30pm after the Sundarban Express arrived at the station from Dhaka. According to witnesses, Sumon was trying to board the train with his elderly parents to travel to Chuadanga when he got into an altercation with a railway staff member. The staffer allegedly stabbed Sumon and his father during the argument.
Following the incident, passengers and locals blocked the train at the station in protest, halting services for nearly two hours.
Kushtia Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Harun Or Rashid and Additional Superintendent of Police (Sadar Circle) Pranab Kumar Sarkar later arrived at the station and held talks with the protesters.
The protesters withdrew the blockade after officials assured them that the incident would be investigated and those responsible brought to justice, allowing train services to resume nearly two hours later.

Describing the incident, Sumon alleged that a railway staff member prevented him from boarding the train with his sick parents.
“He pushed my mother, causing her to fall. When I protested, an argument broke out inside the coach. During the altercation, he stabbed my father and me. We suffered injuries to our hands while trying to fend off the attack,” Sumon said.
Kushtia Court Railway Station in-charge Eti Khatun identified the accused as Abdullah Al Mamun, a conductor guard with Bangladesh Railway.
“The administration has assured us that the incident will be investigated and appropriate action taken against those responsible. Train services have returned to normal,” she said.
Additional SP Pranab Kumar Sarkar said police had brought the situation under control after speaking with the protesters.
“The victim has alleged that a railway employee assigned to the train coach was responsible for the attack. We will investigate the allegation and take necessary action,” he added.
