Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are reportedly thinking about spending the holidays in California with Meghan’s mother, Doria Ragland, about two months after moving back to the UK.
The Times reports that the couple have privately accepted they will not be invited to spend Christmas Day with the royal family, and are not waiting for an invitation.
A source said they know it would be “too awkward and too difficult.”
The report also says they will “do whatever Doria wants to do” for both Thanksgiving and Christmas.
It is unclear whether Doria will fly to the UK or the family will go to California. Their children, Prince Archie, seven, and Princess Lilibet, five, are expected to be in school during Thanksgiving week.
A royal editor Emily Nash made a similar point on the Right Royal Podcast this week. “I would be very surprised if the Sussexes are around at Christmas,” she said. “I think they’ll head to see Doria. I think that was always the plan.”
HELLO! reported that, six weeks after arriving in the UK on August 26, the couple had still not seen King Charles in person. Prince Harry and the King spoke by phone during his first week back.
Since the move, Meghan has stayed largely out of the public eye and is working full-time on her As Ever business.
Meanwhile, Prince Harry has been more public. He attended the Invictus Spirit Awards, the launch of the INSPIRE program and the WellChild Awards. He also spoke at the Clinton Global Initiative in New York and was seen at a local rugby match with his cousin George McCorquodale.
