The Power Division has decided to keep officials active at the field level during the Eid holidays to ensure uninterrupted electricity supply across the country.
The decision was taken at a meeting held on 23 May by Power Secretary Mirana Mahrukh, on maintaining a normal electricity supply during the ongoing summer season.
Government officials said special importance is being given to controlling load shedding in rural areas during the Eid holidays.
Since many factories in cities will remain closed, urban electricity demand is expected to decrease, according to the officials.
The government will also closely monitor electricity services in the areas under the country’s 80 Palli Bidyut Samities (PBS).
Contact numbers of all general managers of PBS have reportedly been shared with the prime minister, the minister, the state minister and the secretary of the Power Division for direct communication during emergencies.
A senior official, on the condition of anonymity, said load shedding of one to two hours per week due to supply limitations could be considered manageable.
“A unified software system is being developed to coordinate data related to electricity supply, load management, and outages, with authorities aiming to complete it by June. Until the software becomes operational, all distribution companies have been instructed to submit reports to the Power Division using a fixed reporting format,” the senior official added.
