State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam has urged hospital authorities to ensure that no individual is able to engage in unethical activities or disrupt the hospital environment by leveraging political affiliations, as was the case in the past.
Addressing officials at Faridpur Medical College Hospital as the chief guest at a reception today (26 June) following her election as its president, she emphasised the need for collective efforts to identify and address the institution’s shortcomings.
“Areas where problems exist within Faridpur Medical College Hospital must be identified and resolved. Since I have taken on this responsibility, I will personally oversee these matters,” she said.
The state minister noted that the proposed FY27 national budget places the highest priority on the health sector.
She said allocating the maximum possible resources to healthcare remains a significant challenge amid the country’s fragile economic conditions.
“Despite these constraints, the government is committed to ensuring adequate support for the health sector. The prime minister is working with equal importance across all sectors, with healthcare remaining one of the key priorities,” she added.
Highlighting the hospital’s regional significance, she said its geographical location makes it a vital healthcare institution for the surrounding areas.
“All irregularities within this medical college hospital must be addressed. Above all, we want to ensure the highest standard of service for our patients. If patients are forced to seek treatment in Dhaka due to a lack of services here, it reflects institutional inefficiency,” she said.
She added, “Combating corruption and ensuring transparency would be among my foremost priorities.”
“If we can eliminate these problems, the hospital will function much more effectively. I will not compromise on these issues, as they fall within my responsibility,” she said.
