The hanging body of a police constable was recovered from a room at the Demra Police Lines in the capital early today (17 July).
The deceased was identified as Md Saidul Islam, 21, a resident of Feni district who joined the Dhaka Metropolitan Police around six months ago.
Police recovered his body from a room at the police lines around midnight after receiving information about the incident. A preliminary report was prepared before the body was sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for an autopsy.
The incident was confirmed by Assistant Commissioner (AC) of DMP’s Wari Zone, Md Shamim Hossain.
He said police recovered the constable’s hanging body after being informed of the incident around 12am.
“Preliminary findings suggest he died by suicide following a family dispute. The exact cause of death will be known after the autopsy,” he said.
Demra Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Taifur Rahman Mirza said Saidul had been on duty that night.
” During a break from duty, he returned to his room and died by suicide. No one else was in the room at the time,” the OC added.
Before his death, Saidul posted an emotional message on Facebook referring to his wife.
In the post, he wrote, “I had slowly built a world around you, carefully and with all my heart. But within just two days, you shattered that world before my eyes. I remained silent and watched it all. Just as a person whose boat sinks in the middle of the sea keeps swimming until they can no longer see the shore and eventually accepts their fate and embraces death, I too feel there is nothing left for me to do.”
Addressing his parents in the same post, he wrote, “I’m sorry, Amma and Abbu. Your son can no longer endure this. I no longer have the strength to die little by little every day. Please forgive your unworthy son. I feel there is nothing left for me to do.”
