Prime Minister Tarique Rahman was thanked in the Jatiya Sangsad after being named among the world’s 100 most influential people by TIME magazine, with Chief Whip Nurul Islam saying the recognition honours not only him but the nation as well.
The chief whip informed the House of the achievement during today’s (16 April) parliamentary session and congratulated the prime minister on behalf of Parliament.
He noted that the prime minister had spent 17 years in exile and, upon returning, inspired renewed hope among the people, leading to his landslide electoral victory and his party’s return to power.
Highlighting public expectations, the chief whip said the prime minister had already begun implementing key election pledges. These include the rollout of farmer and family cards, the introduction of honourariums for imams, muezzins and priests of different faiths, and the waiver of interest on agricultural loans.
He added that the people of Bangladesh have placed their trust in the prime minister through the ballot, while the international recognition reflects his growing global stature.
