Patenga Container Terminal (PCT) has set a new vessel-handling productivity record, with operator RSGT Bangladesh achieving a peak rate of 122 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) per hour during operations involving a CMA CGM vessel.
During the handling of MV AMOUREUX on 18 October, the terminal achieved a peak rate of 72 container moves and 122 TEUs per hour, surpassing its previous record of 58 moves and 82 TEUs per hour set in September.
RSGT Bangladesh handled 1,524 containers, equivalent to 2,571 TEUs, over 21 hours of operations, the company said in a statement yesterday (19 October).
The latest performance follows the commissioning of ship-to-shore (STS) crane operations at PCT in August this year.
CMA CGM management expressed appreciation for the operational performance achieved by RSGT Bangladesh during the vessel-handling operation, according to the terminal operator.
The achievement comes as Bangladesh seeks to improve port efficiency and strengthen the competitiveness of its maritime infrastructure amid growing demand from global shipping lines and international trade.
Nabil Youssef, chief operating officer of RSGT Bangladesh, said the company remained committed to improving operational standards and strengthening the country’s position in the global maritime industry.
“RSGT Bangladesh deeply values the trust and confidence of our stakeholders. We remain steadfast in our commitment to setting new benchmarks in operational excellence, upholding the highest global standards, and driving sustainable growth to strengthen Bangladesh’s position in the global maritime industry,” he said.
RSGT Bangladesh, which describes itself as the country’s first international container terminal operator, said it would continue to focus on operational efficiency, shorter vessel turnaround times and international standards of terminal management.
Higher handling productivity can help terminals complete vessel operations more quickly, although overall turnaround times also depend on factors such as berth availability, cargo clearance and the movement of containers through the port.
