Passengers at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport are receiving their luggage within 15 to 20 minutes under the live baggage monitoring system, Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister M Rashiduzzaman Millat said today (19 October).
During a visit to the airport, the minister spoke with passengers waiting at baggage belts to learn about their travel experiences and luggage collection.
He said passengers had expressed satisfaction with the live monitoring initiative but wanted the service standard to be maintained, according to a press release.
“Prime Minister Tarique Rahman had said, ‘I have a plan’. His plans are gradually being implemented in different sectors,” the minister told reporters after the visit.
He said the plan to introduce live baggage monitoring had been taken about two months ago and was now being implemented to improve passenger services and reduce delays and inconvenience.
Regarding the suspension of flights to Riyadh, Millat said operations on the route remained suspended following a decision by Saudi authorities. Flights would resume once the relevant Saudi authorities granted permission, he added.
As an alternative, the government was working to transport some passengers through Dammam or Madinah to reduce their difficulties, he said.
The minister said the government would continue initiatives to improve passenger services, ensure transparency in baggage handling and reduce inconvenience at the airport.
