The Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Industries has stressed ensuring transparency, accountability, and efficiency in budget execution to enhance the country’s industrial competitiveness.
The committee made the call during its first meeting of the 13th Parliament at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban today (6 August), with Committee Chairman Md Abul Kalam in the chair.
During the meeting, the committee urged all subordinate bodies to work in a coordinated manner to complete development projects within set deadlines, ensure proper utilisation of allocations, foster entrepreneurship, and improve public service quality.
The meeting reviewed the organizational structure of the Ministry of Industries, its expenditure plans, ongoing development projects, and the proposed budget for FY2026-27.
The total proposed budget for the ministry for FY27 stands at Tk1,691.90 crore, comprising Tk361.2 crore for operating expenditure and Tk1,330.88 crore for development allocation.
Officials presented sector-wise operating expenditure plans for the ministry secretariat, the Office of the Chief Inspector of Boilers, the Department of Patents, Designs and Trademarks (DPDT), the National Productivity Organisation (NPO), the Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industries Corporation (Bscic), the Bangladesh Industrial Technical Assistance Centre (BITAC), the Bangladesh Institute of Management (BIM), and the Bangladesh Accreditation Board (BAB).
The committee also evaluated the progress and fund management of development projects implemented by the Bangladesh Chemical Industries Corporation (BCIC), Bscic, BITAC, and the Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI). These projects focus on establishing industrial parks, industrial estates, and warehouses, alongside technology modernisation, laboratory upgrades, and training infrastructure expansion.
Currently, 14 corporations, directorates, boards, and foundations operate under the ministry to support industrialisation, quality control, technology adoption, and skill development across micro, small, medium, and cottage industries.
