Police recovered the body of a 26-year-old Pakistani national, identified as Muhammad Shahbaz, from a rented flat in the capital’s South Banasree area.
The police sent the body to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) morgue for an autopsy this morning (20 October).
Confirming the matter, Khilgaon Police Station Sub-Inspector Syed Zubayer said Shahbaz lived on the ground floor of a 10-storey building at South Banasree.
He was a businessman from the Jamalpur area of Pakistan’s Multan district. He was the son of Nazir Ahmed.
According to police, Shahbaz had married a Bangladeshi woman from an ethnic community and was living with her in the Banasree apartment. However, a few days ago, she left him and remarried elsewhere.
SI Zubayer said Shahbaz had travelled to Satkhira two days ago in an attempt to bring his wife back, but was unsuccessful.
Police suspect he died by suicide last night by hanging himself from a ceiling fan with a bedsheet, reportedly over family issues.
Police broke open the door of the flat and recovered his hanging body around 3am today after receiving information about the incident.
The police officer added that a detailed investigation into the incident is underway. The cause of death will be confirmed after the autopsy, the police officer added.
