ONE Bank PLC has appointed Iftekhar Ahmed Zafar as deputy managing director (DMD), assigning him responsibility for leading the bank’s Transaction Banking and Investment Banking divisions.
In his new role, Zafar will also serve as chief strategy officer, overseeing strategic initiatives alongside his divisional responsibilities, the bank said in a statement.
Zafar brings more than 23 years of experience in the banking sector, with expertise spanning corporate and institutional banking, financial markets, transaction banking and finance.
Prior to joining ONE Bank, he held a range of senior leadership roles at Standard Chartered Bank across Bangladesh and the UAE for over two decades.
He is known for his work in structured products, derivatives, cash and trade services, financial risk management and strategic planning. In his most recent role, he contributed to one of the largest transaction banking franchises in Bangladesh, where he played a key role in product innovation, digital connectivity and multi-currency solutions.
Zafar completed both his BBA and MBA from the Institute of Business Administration (IBA) at the University of Dhaka.
He has also undertaken executive education programmes at international institutions including the Indian Institute of Management (IIM), INSEAD and the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT).
