The officer-in-charge (OC) of Adabor Police Station and a sub-inspector (SI) were injured after being attacked with machetes by suspected robbers during an operation to arrest a gang involved in a recent robbery of a bKash agent in the capital’s Adabor area.
The incident took place today (16 June) behind Delta Garments area of Adabor.
Confirming the incident, Assistant Commissioner (Mohammadpur Zone) Abdullah Al Mamun told The Business Standard that the operation was launched in connection with a robbery in which a bKash agent was hacked and Tk3 lakh was looted.
Police said two of the suspects were shot as law enforcers fired in self-defence during the clash. A total of four suspects were later arrested.
Injured OC Jahidul Islam and SI Tarun received primary treatment, police said.
The arrested individuals were identified as Chora Rubel, Kana Amir, Kashem and Md Joy. Among them, Rubel and Amir sustained bullet injuries.
Acting on intelligence, police raided a hideout behind Delta Garments in the afternoon to arrest those involved in the incident.
During the raid, the suspects allegedly attacked police personnel with machetes, attempting to strike the OC and SI on the head.
“When they tried to attack with machetes, the officers blocked the blows with their hands and were injured. Police then opened fire in self-defence, injuring two suspects. Later, all four were arrested,” said the assistant commissioner.
Police also recovered local weapons from the hideout, he added.
Earlier in the day, at around 11am, a bKash agent named Shafiqul Islam, 39, was attacked at his shop in Shekhertek-7 in Adabor and robbed of Tk3 lakh along with a mobile phone used for bKash transactions.
The victim is currently undergoing treatment at the National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopaedic Rehabilitation (NITOR).
According to the victim’s brother Muslim Hossain, two youths entered the shop and attempted to forcibly take money from the cash counter. When Shafiqul resisted, they attacked him with machetes, injuring his hands and other parts of his body before fleeing with cash and the mobile phone.
