A 22-year-old trainee nurse has died while undergoing treatment for measles-like symptoms at Sylhet Sahid Shamsuddin Ahmed Hospital.
The deceased, Jerin Sultana, was admitted to the hospital’s Intensive Care Unit (ICU), where she died this morning (1 June) at around 9:30am, confirmed Resident Medical Officer of the hospital Dr Mizanur Rahman.
She hailed from Durgapur area under Bishwambharpur upazila in Sunamganj district. She was serving as a midwifery intern at the Companiganj Upazila Health Complex in Sylhet.
Dr Mizanur said the patient could not be saved despite intensive efforts by doctors after she was admitted with measles symptoms.
Hospital sources said she had been suffering from symptoms consistent with measles for several days. As her condition deteriorated, she first received treatment at a private hospital in Sylhet.
She was later admitted to Sylhet Shahid Shamsuddin Ahmed Hospital yesterday as her condition worsened. She was moved to the ICU, where she died the following morning.
