Strengthening cultural activities at the school level can play a key role in preventing the spread of extremism in the country, State Minister for Primary and Mass Education Bobby Hajjaj said today (19 April).
“Participation in music, drama, debate and art helps foster creativity, human values and moral awareness among students,” he made the remarks at a joint discussion at the ministry, organised in collaboration with the Ministry of Cultural Affairs.
“Such activities encourage positive thinking, teamwork and tolerance, which can reduce the risk of young people being drawn toward extremist ideologies,” he added.
The meeting focused on expanding cultural engagement in educational institutions through competitions and structured programmes.
Hajjaj further said primary education forms the foundation of a child’s development, and integrating cultural practices into the curriculum is essential to strengthening that base.
“Teachers will receive training to support these initiatives, while expert trainers from the cultural affairs ministry will also work directly with students.”
State Minister for Cultural Affairs Ali Newaz Mahmud Khaiyam, who was also present, said cultural activities are vital for building a healthy, creative and aware generation. “Coordinated initiatives are being undertaken to expand cultural engagement among students, and these activities will be implemented soon to achieve the set goals.”
Senior officials, including Primary and Mass Education Secretary Abu Taher Md Masud Rana and Cultural Affairs Secretary Kaniz Mowla, attended the meeting.
